Why did Columbia Gas of Ohio make this change?
Both the PUCO and the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) have supported the transition. Two other Ohio natural gas utilities have already switched to this type of gas purchasing system.
Auctions may attract more suppliers to Columbia’s service territory, which could lead to increased competition and lower natural gas prices.
Other gas supply options
Keep in mind that the Standard Service Offer is only one gas supply option for Columbia Gas of Ohio customers.
You may shop on your own for an alternative supplier through Columbia’s Customer CHOICE Program.
If you live in a community with a natural gas aggregation program, you may participate in CHOICE® through your municipality’s negotiated rate.
No matter which supply gas option you choose, you remain a Columbia Gas of Ohio customer. As your gas utility company, Columbia will continue to maintain its pipeline system, respond to emergencies, answer customer calls, offer payment plans, read meters and send bills.
