What is the Delaware Energy Challenge?
Delaware strives to be a leader in helping the buckeye state become cleaner and more energy efficient. The community is partnering with Columbia Gas of Ohio to “Lose 10 in 2010,” that is, reduce its energy use 10 percent by the end of 2010.
What are the goals? 
- Reduce community-wide energy use by 10 percent by December 31, 2010
- Reduce natural gas use by 20,000 Ccf per year (a Ccf is 100 cubic feet)
- Save an estimated $850,000 in energy costs for the community
How does it work?
Residents and businesses can participate by enrolling in one or more energy efficiency programs designed to help Columbia Gas customers save money and energy. Columbia Gas will provide more than $100,000 in energy audits and more than $85,000 in rebates for residents and businesses that install qualified energy efficiency improvements.
Why should I participate?
If just 10 percent of Columbia Gas customers in the greater Delaware area complete the qualified energy efficiency improvements, the community will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by more than 100 metric tons per year; the equivalent of removing the emissions generated from nearly 12,000 gallons of gasoline consumed on the city’s roads.

- Schedule a Home Energy Audit with Home Performance Solutions. Residential customers who use at least 1,000 Ccf or more of natural gas annually can lower energy use by as much as 30 percent and earn up to 60 percent off qualified energy efficiency improvements. The $50 home audit fee ($500 value) is reimbursed after any improvements are made.
- Get $10 off select showerheads and $25 off programmable thermostats with Simple Energy Solutions. Shop online at ColumbiaGasOhio.com/e-store or at local retailers.
- Participate in WarmChoice® , a program designed to help income-eligible customers make their homes more comfortable, healthier, safer and more affordable to heat.
- Get instant rebates worth hundreds of dollars with Small Business Energy Solutions. Business customers can lower energy use by up to 30 percent by upgrading insulation and installing qualifying gas-heating equipment replacements, infrared tubular space heaters, programmable thermostats, air and duct sealing and more.
These programs are available for gas-heating and gas-water heating customers of Columbia Gas of Ohio.
