Columbia Gas of Ohio program helps lower water consumption for Toledo-area residents with free showerheads

Thursday, August 07, 2014

TOLEDO, Ohio -- In response to the City of Toledo's request for area residents to reduce water usage, Columbia Gas of Ohio reminds customers of free energy efficient showerheads available through the Simple Energy Solutions program.

The showerheads are free, with free shipping, and are available to Columbia Gas of Ohio natural gas water-heating customers. They are available on-line at ColumbiaGasOhio.com/e-store.

The City of Toledo recently urged residents to conserve water for the remainder of the summer. This announcement looks to stem the potential impact of the toxic algae bloom in Lake Erie, which remains a threat to the city’s drinking-water supply.

Columbia Gas will be offering the Niagara's Earth® Showerhead, which saves water and money by using up to 40-percent less water than traditional showerheads. Upgrading a conventional showerhead with one that’s energy-efficient can save between 1,800 and 3,600 gallons of water annually. Specifics of the Niagara Earth® Showerhead include:

  •  Flow Rate of 1.5 gallons per minute
  • Stream Types: Spray, Massage & Combo
  • Adjustable Angle: Yes
  • Head Length: 4-1/8''
  • Head Diameter: 2-11/16''
  • Finish: Chrome

Customers can also take advantage of the Columbia Gas of Ohio Home Performance Solutions program, which offers rebates of up to 70 percent on qualified energy-efficiency improvements. These improvements can reduce a home’s annual energy consumption by 30 percent or more, saving up to $6,000 on utility bills over the life of the improvements. The program starts with a low cost home energy audit, a $500 value that costs only $50. To schedule an energy audit or obtain more information about the program, Columbia customers should call 1-877-644-6674.

Columbia Gas offers several energy efficiency programs for all income levels. These programs provide a home energy audit, and safety checks of natural gas appliances. The programs also provide generous incentives to complete recommended improvements made by the professional energy auditors. More information is available at ColumbiaGasOhio.com/Ways-to-Save.
