Columbia Gas of Ohio’s response to Team Fishel and UtiliQuest statements regarding W. Broad incident

Our customers have the right to expect safe, reliable natural gas service. We are confident, based on a thorough inspection of our facilities, that our system is safe. We are thankful that no one was seriously injured in yesterday’s unfortunate incident. Columbia Gas of Ohio is proud of the quick response of our employees and grateful for the quick actions of first responders. Our focus continues to be on the safety of the community, our partners and our employees.

As is common practice in the utility industry, Columbia Gas of Ohio relies on third-party companies, like UtiliQuest, to locate our underground gas facilities. The maps and records that we provided to UtiliQuest for this project were accurate. While the investigation is on-going, we understand that a human error occurred, which resulted in yesterday’s incident.

We understand that the community has questions and is looking for answers about yesterday’s incident. We will continue to participate in the on-going investigation. Our crews have completed repairs to the main and services have been restored. If customers sustained property damage, they should contact 1-800-455-6635
