Director, Regulatory Policy

Melissa is the director of regulatory policy for Columbia Gas of Ohio. Melissa is responsible for developing policy and processes to sustain Columbia’s energy efficiency and energy assistance programs; preparing and supervising regulatory filings and proceedings; and implementing regulatory initiatives to execute the company’s business strategy.

Melissa joined Columbia’s legal department in August 2012, advising the company on real estate issues, and negotiating right-of-way and lease agreements. In October 2013, she transitioned from commercial practice to regulatory, handling matters on behalf of Columbia and its affiliates before the utility commissions in Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.

Prior to joining Columbia, Melissa worked as an associate for two energy law firms in Columbus, serving as the outside counsel to several major public utilities in Ohio and Illinois.

Melissa serves on the board of directors for Amethyst Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women and their families recover from substance abuse and dependence. She also is a member of United Way Women's Leadership Council, Community Shelter Board's Women Leaders Rebuilding Lives, WELD, WiNUP, the Ohio State Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Association. 

A native of Coshocton, Ohio, Melissa earned Bachelor’s Degrees in political science and communications from Marietta College and a Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School.

Melissa and her husband, Neil, reside in Dublin, Ohio.
