Row of homes

We’re proud to join with the City of Columbus, Franklin County and other corporate partners to create a $100 million fund to address the need for affordable housing in Franklin County. The company is investing $5 million from the NiSource Charitable Foundation in a new Housing Action Fund.

“A lack of affordable housing forces some central Ohio families to make heartbreaking tradeoffs, such as cutting back on health care,” said Dan Creekmur, our president and chief operating officer. “A safe, warm and affordable place to call home provides families with stability and hope for the future.”

Columbia Gas has shown its commitment to solving the affordable housing crisis through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Creekmur led Habitat MidOhio’s capital campaign, which triples the number of families the organization will be able to serve. We sponsored Habitat’s recent Statehouse Build which constructed portions of a home on the Statehouse lawn, and our employees can often be found volunteering at Habitat home sites.

More than 50,000 people in central Ohio live at or near poverty level and spend more than half of their income for housing. The fund will enable the City of Columbus and Franklin County to fund housing development, home repair and modification, and targeted renter assistance.
