Columbus, OH – To honor and celebrate team members who give back to our communities across the state, Columbia Gas of Ohio recently announced the winners of the 2023 Volunteer of the Year Awards at an awards ceremony and luncheon. The Volunteer of the Year Awards showcase the hard work Columbia team members contribute outside of work to uplift and help our neighbors.
The 2023 Volunteers of the Year are Ironton Field Operations Leader Glen Dale Chapman and Columbus Executive Administrative Assistant Jayne Metcalf and the entire Columbia team that delivers food for LifeCare Alliance’s Meals-on-Wheels initiative.
“I’m proud to work alongside Glen Dale, Jayne, the Meals-on-Wheels team and our many other volunteers who dedicate their time to giving back to causes they are passionate about,” said Columbia Gas of Ohio President Robert Heidorn. “They represent our priorities as a company and make Columbia and their communities better for all of us.”
Chapman coaches his children’s athletic teams, mentors and teaches students at local elementary schools, prepares high school seniors pursuing trade careers, and serves on several local boards, including the Lawrence County Fair Board, Community Center Board and Chesapeake School Board. He is passionate about teaching and working with children.
Inspired by her brother’s philanthropic spirit and LifeCare Alliance volunteers who supported her mother, Metcalf started the Columbia Gas Meals-on-Wheels route with a now-retired Columbia team member. Since then, the team has driven Meals-on-Wheels routes for LifeCare Alliance five days a week for the last 13 years. Columbia team members not only deliver meals to people in need across central Ohio, but also act as a support system for clients, many of whom do not have loved ones nearby.
Chapman, Metcalf and Columbia Gas Meals-on-Wheels volunteers exemplify the Columbia values by supporting our communities and showing our customers that we care. These values make both team members exemplary recipients of the 2023 Volunteer of the Year Award.
As part of the award, the NiSource Charitable Foundation will donate $5,000 to Community Mission Outreach in Chapman’s name and $5,000 to LifeCare Alliance in Metcalf’s and the Meals-on-Wheels team members’ names.
