Todd Borland, lead analyst for Columbia Gas of Ohio Corporate Insurance, is a quiet and reserved employee who some may describe as an introvert, unless it is about Ohio State or his giant dog Moose. But when his director, Heidi Gossett, challenged their department to give back to the community through volunteer work, years ago, Todd stepped far outside of his comfort zone and started delivering meals to elderly and struggling communities through the Lifecare Alliance, Meals on Wheels program. Shortly after he started volunteering, Todd not only realized how important the work was, but also how much he enjoyed helping those in need. Todd has continued to deliver meals for years, and has even recruited his coworkers to volunteer as well.
When the Coronavirus hit last year, providing food for those unable to leave their homes became more important than ever. Todd has helped support hundreds of seniors and high risk families through the pandemic by safely delivering meals whenever he can. Todd has proven to be a consistent and reliable volunteer for both the Meals on Wheels program and those receiving the deliveries.
“I am so proud of Todd for his commitment to his charity and I want to thank him for his service to the community” says Heidi Gossett, Director of Corporate Insurance.
As the 2020 Volunteer of the Year, Columbia Gas through the NiSource Charitable Foundation will donate $5,000 to the Lifecare Alliance Meals on Wheels program in honor of Todd Borland and his outstanding volunteerism.
At Columbia Gas, we value and appreciate all the work of our volunteers,” said Vince Parisi, president and chief operating officer. “While 2020 was filled with challenges, there were many employees like Todd who found ways to safely give back in their communities.”
