Columbus,
OH – Aug. 11 is almost
here, and Columbia Gas hopes that 8/11 on the calendar will be a natural
reminder for residents to contact 811 before any digging project to have
underground utility lines marked. An underground utility line is damaged every
few minutes because someone decided to dig without first contacting 811.
Damaging a line can lead to expensive repairs, utility outages and injuries. Whether installing a mailbox, building a deck, planting a tree or laying a patio, Columbia Gas reminds Ohioans to contact 811 at least two business days before breaking ground. When you contact 811 your local utility companies mark the approximate location of any buried lines in your yard, so you don’t risk injuring yourself or disrupting utility service to the neighborhood.
It's
Free. It's Easy. It's the Law. Call 811 or go online to OUPS.org to make your request. No matter how large or small, every
digging project requires contacting 811 to ensure underground utilities have
been appropriately marked before digging.
