Columbia Gas of Ohio Statement on Reynoldsburg Incident

Friday, July 15, 2016

Columbia Gas of Ohio crews assisted the Truro Township Fire Department, the City of Columbus Fire Department and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio in the investigation of an explosion that occurred last night at 6300 Century City in Reynoldsburg.

We conducted a thorough investigation of our natural gas main and service lines that serve the Century City apartments and confirmed they are safe.

Based on our investigation, our natural gas main lines and service lines were not the source of this incident.

We will continue to support the Truro Township Fire Department, the City of Columbus Fire Department and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio as they complete their investigation.

Once residents are safely allowed back into their units we will restore gas service to the 36 customers affected.

Columbus residents may request an inside safety check of gas lines and should contact Columbia Gas at 1-800-344-4077 to schedule in-home safety checks.

Our customers expect and deserve safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to their homes and businesses, and we are committed to delivering it. Natural gas safety requires a partnership between Columbia Gas of Ohio, our customers and communities. Important customer safety reminders include:

  • If a customer smells an odor of natural gas, they should leave the area immediately, move to a safe location and call Columbia Gas of Ohio at 800-344-4077 and 911.
  • Contact certified contractors or plumbers for maintenance or repair work on natural gas appliances and house lines.
  • Always call 811 at least two business days before beginning an excavation project to have all underground utilities located. It is a free service that ensures the safety of our community.
