Friday, May 11, 2018

The organization wants Ohio to be welcoming to everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity

Columbia Gas of Ohio and NiSource, our parent company, have joined the Ohio Business Competes Coalition, a non-partisan coalition of businesses committed to achieving nondiscrimination policies.

There are 21 states where consumers and employees are protected from being denied jobs, housing and services based upon perceived sexual orientation and/or gender identity — Ohio is not one of these states.

“We have made a deep commitment to foster a culture of inclusion and diversity for our employees,” said Columbia Gas of Ohio president, Dan Creekmur. “We strongly believe in the Ohio Business Competes Coalition mission and that organizations that respect all talents, ideas and perspectives makes them stronger – and will make Ohio stronger.”

Columbia Gas of Ohio and NiSource join over 300+ statewide coalition members including Cardinal Health, The Ohio State University, Columbus Crew SC, American Electric Power, Donatos, Jeni’s Ice Cream and Pelotonia.

"Ohio Business Competes wants Ohio to be welcoming to everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity," said Alana Jochum, board member of Ohio Business Competes. "Columbia Gas and NiSource joining Ohio Business Competes is a strong display of their values and commitment to equality in the Buckeye State."

NiSource is one of 104 companies worldwide named to the 2018 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI) and achieved a perfect score on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), designating the company as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ equality. NiSource’s policies already prevent discrimination of individuals based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Ohio Business Competes is dedicated to achieving polices at the state level in order to attract the best talent, to increase business relationships, and to grow Ohio's economy. Learn more about Ohio Business Competes at OhioBusinessCompetes.org.
