Our thoughts are with the family and community dealing with the loss and impact of the tragic incident in Madison Township.

In cooperation with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Madison Township Fire Department, and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, Columbia Gas of Ohio has participated in the investigation of the incident at 3335 Everson Road East.

Our crews have conducted thorough inspections of our service lines and main lines and confirmed they are safe. Based on our inspections and observations to date, we remain confident that our main lines and service lines did not contribute to this incident.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office will continue its investigation to determine the actual cause of the incident. We will continue to support their investigation.

Our customers expect and deserve safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to their homes and businesses. Natural gas safety requires a partnership between Columbia Gas, our customers and communities. Columbus residents may request an inside safety check of gas lines and should contact Columbia Gas at 1-800-344-4077 to schedule in-home safety checks.

If a customer smells an odor of natural gas, they should leave the area immediately, move to a safe location and call 911 and Columbia Gas of Ohio at 1-800-344-4077. Qualified contractors or plumbers should be contacted for maintenance or repair work on natural gas appliances and house lines. Always call 811 at least two business days before beginning an excavation project to have all underground utilities located. It is a free service that ensures the safety of our community.
