Our Headquarters Earns LEED® Gold and Silver Designations

Wednesday, March 07, 2018

We have earned LEED® Gold and Silver designations for the sustainable design of our headquarters building in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Located at 240 and 290 West Nationwide Blvd. in the Arena District, the building is one of only eight commercial interiors in the Columbus metro area currently certified at the Gold level.

“We are committed to innovation and environmental responsibility,” said President Dan Creekmur.  “Along with our energy efficiency programs and our commitment to reduce greenhouse gasses, LEED certification shows that we are focused on serving customers in a way that is sustainable.”

Arena District LEED certified buildingLEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a rating system introduced by the United States Green Building Council to evaluate the environmental performance of a building. It considers sites, energy and water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, materials and resources, and other aspects of a building’s performance.

Our headquarters building interior earned LEED Gold certification. Energy efficient HVAC systems and lighting, air quality, ENERGY STAR® appliances and furniture made with recycled materials factored into the rating.

The building’s core and shell is certified at the Silver level. It earned points toward certification for its location, within walking distance to many downtown amenities, access to public transportation, the use of regional and recycled materials, and other factors.

We’re committed to delivering energy to customers in a way that is environmentally responsible. The company has pledged to make specific reductions in methane emissions as a founding member of the US EPA’s Natural Gas STAR Methane Challenge Program. Our energy efficiency programs reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by helping customers cut their natural gas use. In addition, our parent company, NiSource, has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
